What is Reiki?Reiki is a form of bodywork that most people find quite relaxing and revitalizing at the same time. It is a gentle therapy that is suitable for everyone regardless of age or level of health. It has been practiced in Japan in its current form for over one hundred years. It is gaining in popularity in this country as well. The person receiving Reiki lies on a massage table, fully clothed. The practitioner places his or her hands on certain body parts, avoiding private areas, applying very little pressure. Reiki does not hurt. Reiki is often experienced as a sensation of heat, tingling, cold, or waves of energy. People receiving Reiki relax deeply and often go to sleep. After Reiki sessions people have reported pain reduction or cessation as well as a sense of well being and clarity, calmness and peacefulness. Where did it come from?Reiki is a healing technique that has been practiced for thousands of years. Mr. Mikao Usi rediscovered it in Japan in the late 1800's after a long search for healing techniques. Mrs. Hawayo Takata, a Hawaiian woman of Japanese decent, learned Reiki from one of Mr. Usui's students. She brought Reiki to this country where it is gaining recognition.
